Repossi’s Serti sur Vide: Diamonds Suspended in Space

 

At Repossi, the space surrounding a gemstone is as important as the stone itself. The Maison’s Serti sur Vide collection began with a simple gesture familiar to every gemologist: holding a diamond between the fingertips to observe its brilliance before setting it. Reinterpreted through Repossi’s architectural language, that fleeting moment becomes a jewel in which the mounting almost disappears and the stone appears suspended against the skin.

The pear-shaped diamond remains central to this vocabulary. Its elongated silhouette introduces direction and movement, while Repossi’s signature “Eiffel Tower” setting allows the stone to receive light with minimal visual interruption. Rather than enclosing the gemstone within a conventional frame, the design gives it room to breathe.

This sensation is especially striking in the white-gold Double ring. Designed to extend across two fingers, it brings together six pear-shaped diamonds totalling 3.29 carats, accompanied by 0.61 carats of pavé-set diamonds. The stones seem to hover at different points around the hand, held together by polished bands that function almost like lines in a drawing. Despite the complexity of its construction, the ring retains an impression of remarkable lightness.

Colour introduces another dimension. A sculptural white-gold ring set with two pear-shaped aquamarines and five indicolite tourmalines creates a gradient of blue and green across the fingers. Totalling 3.77 carats, the gemstones recall the changing oxidised tones of the Vendôme Column, a reference chosen to mark the anniversary of Repossi’s Place Vendôme boutique. Rather than forming a conventional central cluster, the stones appear to grow outward from the metal, creating an asymmetric composition that shifts according to the angle from which it is viewed.

The Fancy Serti sur Vide pieces explore contrast with equal confidence. One ring pairs a cushion-shaped yellow diamond with a marquise-shaped white diamond, totalling 5.29 carats. Set across several parallel bands of white gold and framed by pavé diamonds, the warm central stone becomes a concentrated flash of colour against the cool precision of the metal. Its composition feels graphic yet spontaneous, as though the two principal diamonds have been placed in conversation rather than arranged according to traditional symmetry.

The accompanying earrings refine that dialogue on a smaller scale. In one pair, pear-shaped yellow diamonds are balanced by white diamonds; in another, soft pink diamonds introduce a more delicate chromatic tension. Each design places three pear-shaped stones in a compact, open arrangement, allowing their different colours and orientations to define the composition. The yellow-diamond earrings total 2.17 carats, while the pink-diamond pair totals 1.91 carats.

Worn along the curve of the ear, the Serti sur Vide ear cuff brings the collection’s floating effect directly onto the body. Nine pear-shaped diamonds, totalling 3.67 carats, trace an ascending line from the lobe, accompanied by 0.23 carats of pavé diamonds. 

Across these creations, Repossi does not use minimalism to diminish impact. Instead, the reduced settings intensify the presence of each gemstone. Yellow, pink, blue and green stones emerge with unusual clarity, while white diamonds become points of suspended light.
