Braeden De La Garza is an up and coming actor who has been making waves in the entertainment industry. AM: From Texas to LA, what do you miss about home and what are the perks of living in LA?
The biggest difference between the two is the energy. When I first came to LA, I fell in love with it because I felt so many moving parts! Everyone is working towards something, there’s always stuff to do, and things going on. I got swept up in it all. Being back home in Texas is a lot more relaxing. People live very suburban lives and day to day is pretty calm. There’s not as much to do, and there aren’t as many people. It’s great to go home and visit when I need a break. As for what I miss the most? Hands down it’s the food. Nothing beats Whataburger and Tex-Mex.
AM: Tell us more about Cruel Summer; how was the casting process? And how did you prepare for this role?
I
actually auditioned for Luke first! I heard they liked my audition, but
that I wasn’t moving forward, and that was the end of it for me for a
while. I didn’t think anything of it, until I got an audition request in
April of 2022 for Brent. I shot it in my apartment, and sent it off,
and a week later I was packing for Vancouver. Prep-wise, I tried to just
get my lines down and get a feel for who Brent was, and let whatever
happened on set come to me organically.
AM: Do you feel like launching an acting career at a young age is an advantage or disadvantage?
I
actually feel blessed that my “career” didn’t really start until I was
about to graduate high school. I lived an extremely ordinary suburban
Texas life up until I was about 18, and I think it was perfect. I’ve
experienced what it’s like to go to regular school and have regular
friends and feel regular teenage things without the added stress of
being a working actor.
AM: Who are some actors you look up to? And who would you like to share the screen with?
I love Jason Bateman. One that I have shared the screen with is Paul Adelstein. Truly, one of my favorite humans.
AM: And what kind of musical genre do you like to perform?
60s Rock. No question. (Maybe some early 70s too.)
AM: If you were to choose between acting and music, which one would you go for?
I
actively choose acting as my career, but music may be closer to my
heart in the long run. It’s tough. Thank God I’ll never have to choose.
