While the State of Qatar prepares for the launch of the FIFA World Cup 2022, its neighboring country Saudi Arabia hosted the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola with a final and memorable stop at Ithra, the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, last Saturday in Dhahran.

Football stars David Villa and Sami Al-Jaber were amongst the guests of the closing ceremony of the festive Tanween creativity season. Both Villa and Al-Jaber, who participated in previous world cups, looked back at the route and challenges behind this global competition.

Ambassador of the FIFA World Cup David Villa remembered 2010, the year he held the trophy on behalf of his nation, and how it has impacted his life and the overall football sector in Spain.

Sami Al-Jaber, a Saudi football icon in the region, highlighted the strengths and optimism he saw in the Saudi national football team, and shared the ongoing support of the king and the government’s role in fostering talent in Saudi Arabia.

The crowd in Dhahran witnessed a world-class event full of surprises and enriching discussions that wrapped up this year’s Tanween creativity season. Under the theme of Collaborate to Create, the FIFA moment felt like the right closure at Ithra, as the entire world awaits a month of non-stop team work and collaboration of passionate players from four corners of the world.
