Last month, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia headlined global news after it announced the launch of its tourism project. The once discrete kingdom, is now aiming to become a travel destination like many of its neighboring countries in the Gulf region.

L'Institut Du Monde Arabe is inaugurating this new chapter with its latest exhibition AlUla Wonder of Arabia the Oasis with 7000 Years of History, which is running till January 19, 2020.

So where is AlUla? This large oasis village overflowing with palm trees and water resources once fascinated the most renowned Arab explorer Ibn Battuta. AlUla is an archaeological region that is visually captivating and historically rich, a land of numerous civilizations. It uncovers a juxtaposition of nature's wonders; a green and aqua paradise, meets solid canyons and red sandstone.

The exhibition brings together 20 years of scientific efforts of French archaeologist and epigrapher Laïla Nehmé, and Saudi archaeologist Abdulrahman Alsuhaibani, all captured by the artistic lens of Yann Arthus-Bertrand.

The Institut Du Monde Arabe has set-up an immersive audiovisual experience, with surreal visuals of landscapes and objects, coupled with authentic moments and rituals. A local guide from a family that has lived in AlUla for generations will lead you through the alleys of the Old Town where locals unfold their stories.

The travel of 7000 years, traces the remnants of the first people who inhibited the land and the ongoing affects of an intact nature. It marks this Saudi piece of heaven as a must-see during the Parisian Autumn/Winter cultural season.
