His first show started off as a highly anticipated event, turned into the talk of the French capital and followed by global media frenzy. Yet Hedi Slimane's second women's collection was his platform for calming and reassuring the fashion crowd; everything will be ok at the French legacy house of Celine.
Contrary to his very first Ready-to-Wear collection for Celine, and which had a stronger Slimane DNA, the new one is more wearable, colorful and catered for an active life. This season was a pause from his signature glitzy dark short dresses and a rotation onto comfortable and so Frenchy chic outfits.
Hedi went a step further by reviving some of the vintage and very Parisian Celine pieces that made the house what it stands for today.
A week earlier, Hedi Slimane debuted the first full men’s collection for Fall/Winter 2019. The previous season, the designer insinuated his intention of serving Celine’s male public, but it wasn’t until this Paris Fashion Week that Celine became an official competitor on the masculine market.
It seemed as if the men’s collection was his safe place to express more of the Slimane dynasty; a dark style meets British rock chicness. Black suites, slim pants, and vintage styled leather jackets. No street wear was insight (quite refreshing!).
The focus on accessories is most definitely part of the new Celine direction, and the sunglasses, bags and shoes are on our must-have lists already.
